Lanzarote: a volcanic island to be discovered

153

Lanzarote is a volcanic island, as well as all the canary islands. The last eruptions took place in 1824 lasting for few months.
Between 1730 and 1736 Lanzarote suffered the longest volcanic eruptions of the Canaries. They destroyed dozens of villages, hamlets and fields, transforming a huge part of the southern territory of the island.
If you love geology and volcanoes and if you’d like to discover landscapes from “another planet” this is the perfect activity for you. I offer different options to enjoy the south part of Lanzarote combining guided tours, hiking adventure and nature. We will visit all those places directly affected by the 18th century volcanic eruptions:
– the southwestern coast of Lanzarote. A guided tour that includes a walk around the old saltpans where you will learn about the flora and fauna of the place, its history, how the saltpans work and you will also discover the lime kinl traditions. Form the saltpans we’ll move on to Los Hervideros, volcanic cliff where the ocean waves design beautiful and unique caves and we will finish off with a visit to the green lagoon and the village of El Golfo.

– The Timanfaya National Park: guided visit to one of the most emblematic places of the island. After visiting the Park we’ll move on the the Volcano Natural Park to enjoy a guided walk through the volcano that started the Timanfaya eruptions.
