Roman and medieval Tarragona

Visit the millenary town founded by the Romans in the 3rd century B.C. that it became one of the main capitals of the Roman Empire, thanks to its strategic location near the Mediterranean Sea, which also contributed to Tarraco being one of the main economic, military and cultural focal points in Hispania and the rest of the Roman territory.
Tarragona has many things to show: the archaeological and monumental Roman Tarraco, declared World Heritage by UNESCO in the year 2000, with its stunning buildings such as the Wall, the Circus and the Amphitheatre. We will know about the Roman past of Tarraco and we will show what the city and its buildings were like. We will also learn about how the Romans lived and how they had fun in the popular public show buildings. We will begin the visit by seeing the scale model of Tarraco, which will help us to understand the aspect of the city. We will carry on walking along the Archaeological Walk which surrounds the wall; we will see the Provincial Forum remains, the Archaeological Museum, the Pretori Tower, the interior of the Circus and the Amphitheatre.
The city has other interesting places such as the fishermen quarter, the so-called “Serrallo”, the High Part, presided over by the gothic cathedral, the gothic porch in Merceria street, de la Font Square, Rambla Nova and its emblematic Mediterranean Balcony where we will “touch iron”.
